neuropathy remedy: vitamin B6

We are monitoring my neuropathy. If it gets worse, my oncologist will adjust my chemo, currently Taxol®. Since last week when my fingertips were extremely painful, the neuropathy seems to have stabilized if not gotten a bit better. I have been drinking tonic water, which has 40 mg of quinine, a home remedy that works well for some people. While I have not had startling results in the few days I’ve been drinking it, I’ll continue at the same level. Maybe what I’ve been drinking is responsible for the slight improvement; maybe not, but no harm in drinking the 8 to 16 ounces a day.

I’ve also read that vitamin B6 can also help, so I’m going to add that to my diet. It looks like I can get that from some of the foods I typically eat, like chick peas, walnuts, sunflower seeds, Malt-O-Meal, shredded wheat or the nutrition drinks I have when I can’t eat. Of course, I can get supplements, too.

How did I find this info? Nutrition Data, my favorite, and in my humble opinion the best, site for anything about nutrition. It’s a complete site in both the information they provide and the tools it provides. Their search tools are the best. You can look up a nutrient that you might need in your nutrition plan and tailor it to the type of foods you want to include or exclude. I looked up B6 and then selected the qualifiers for the least amount of sugars and saturated fats. It gave me a list and categorized them according to the categories of foods included in my overall profile preferences. Since I do not eat meat or fowl, the suggestions exclude those categories of foods. You can also get the nutritional data on recipes that you create by entering the ingredients. Every food includes a pyramid, graphically showing the food’s values, and other subcharts showing the glycemic index of each food as well as suggestions for alternative foods that might be healthier choices according to your choices

I can spend endless time at this site and hope you will enjoy it as well.
