research: estrogen levels may reduce breast stem cells

Researchers at CIC bioGUNE (Center for Cooperative Research in Biosciences) have shown that estrogen may have a beneficial effect of reducing the number of stem cells in breast tumors. While estrogen promotes the growth of breast cell tissue, including breast cancer tissue, this study demonstrates that it has a different effect on stem-cell growth. This illustrates that estrogen behavior varies depending on cell type.
