I try to keep up with my reading, and today I found an article that I somehow missed. It is an article from the New York Times by Katherine Russell Rich who has been surviving stage IV breast cancer for 17 years. In the article she notes that, in fact, two percent of women with breast cancer survive long-term for reasons thus far unknown. Most research has focused on treatment rather than survivors and why they have survived. Dr. Susan Love, however, will be one of the first to focus research on long-term survival.

Hear Hear! We don’t have to go on schedule just because someone else says so do we? 🙂 I have metastatic breast cancer..liver and bones..stage 4 ofcourse…but so far living with it quite well…found your site while researching “taxol and neuropathy” Just starting to feel some tingling in my legs and feet..am an avid dancer as well and worried that if I wait too long to take a chemo break that my oncologist suggested might be in my future….the damage might be permanent..cute pictures by the way..like the one of you napping with Marvin by your side 😉

It is wonderful to hear stories of survival against the odds. My mother is a 26 year breast cancer survivor (it has been 16 years since it metasticized to her lung).
